Making of: Fade to Black
I love strobist assignments, probably more than any type of photography. As a strobist, light waits for you!
"Fade to Black" was created specifically to win a contest, the Imaging Resource contest : Photo a Day...and i won it for December 30, 2010.
A lighting diagram will be provided for this guide as i lost the original "setup shot":

Glass was tied to the ceiling and was in upside down position, as the smoke will go in and disperse inside the glass.
A single double color filter ( red-blue ) was applied in photoshop, along with some contrast.
I shot around 300 images to reach this one and following gear ( and settings ) was used:
•Nikon D300 , Tamron 17-50 VC f/2.8 at f/5.6
•Nikon SB-600 at 1/16 reflected of silver umbrella
•Nikon SB-900 at 1/32 towards smoke
•Triggered by Nikon CLS
And the final result....Imaging Resource, Photo a Day winner for December 30, 2010:
